Human Asia welcomes two new interns from the University of Hong Kong, who will be working with us from the beginning of June until the end of July.
Hi, this is Doyeong Jung who is going to work in Human Asia for the next two months.
Growing up in South Korea, the one and only divided nation in the world, human rights issues have been always my priority interest. Watching and reading news about human rights abuses in North Korea, which is only a few miles away from where I live, I always craved for what I can actually do and how I can contribute for the sake of those in the North under harsh conditions. However, as I came to Hong Kong and learned human rights issues globally, ironically, I found that given Asia has the largest population on Earth, it has the least human rights activities that are actively being held and promoted. Therefore, I dreamed to be in a position where I can encourage and manifest more human rights campaigns and advocates in Asian regions, for my family and friends. Throughout two months of internship in Human Asia, I am expecting to get closer and familiarize with the Asian human rights issues, while contributing to the promotion of Asian human rights.
Eun Kyo Lee
Hello, this is Eun Kyo Lee and I will be working as a project intern here in Human Asia for the summer.
As I started attending Model United Nations conferences during secondary schools, I began taking interests in humanitarian causes. This interest grew into passion and was followed through in my university life via various humanitarian-related student activities. This passion I have for humanitarian causes, I guess, could be attributed to the intrinsic joy of comfort that I gain when I become of use to others who need it. That sense of small comfort is perhaps what helps me get through the frustrations in life and fuels me with the will to live on another day. As I have lived abroad for my whole life since the age of 2, I have always had a deep sense of attachment to the international community’s well-being. I believe that this internship experience in Human Asia, an NGO dedicated to the advocacy of human rights in the entire Asian region, would be an enriching opportunity to study the value of education in realizing this goal
