2019 3rd Model UN Human Rights Council UPR Competition for High School was finally held on February 9, 2019 at Centennial Memorial Samsung Hall, Korea University with simultaneous interpretation provided. This event was co-organized by Human Asia and Korea University Human Rights Center and sponsored by the U.S. Embassy, the United Nations Human Rights Office, and One-Stop Prep with a number of 22 students who successfully passed the preliminary examination beforehand. The main purpose of this event was meant to allow high school students, who will be an agent of change for better future, to take the better understanding of human rights protection mechanism; to enhance their leadership and diplomatic skills; and garner human rights-responsive lens.
The main topics under discussion in the finals revolved around Freedom of Expression and the Rights of the Child, wherein the participants deeply delved into human rights issues, proposed relevant substantial solutions, and empiricially understood the UN Human Rights commitments. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to every participant who enthusiastically prepared for the event and wish to have the great pleasure of our paths crossing again sometime in the future.
